Accutane Consumer Reviews

Accutane as you may have noticed, comes with sometimes mild, sometimes extreme side effects, which makes it a highly controlled substance only meant for extreme situations. Because it has such a profound effect on the body, the body can also experience some problems when going off of it, and some of the side effects, such as dry skin or sore joints, may be permanent. Some doctors recommend a weening regimen when stopping Accutane while others take other approaches. If you want the safest way for your daughter to stop Accutane, we would recommend that you consult with your doctor/dermatologist.

My daughter just completed her last dose of accutane. Should she expect any problems as her body adjusts to being off the drug?

All the talk about dry lips, dry mouth, dry skin etc., is happening to me already. I can fel my forehead itch or drying up, my lips and nostrils as well. Such a tight dry feeling, and body fatigue, even my eyes are extremely dry. M scalp is starting to feel dry and itchy.
I didn`t even take or use accutane, I just finished reading all the reviews.
So I guess another alternative to taking accutane is to just read the reviews.
Awesome, thank you all for testing the accutane, and reviewing it for others.
Im happy for those that went through the entire process and pain, resulting in good skin. Im sorry for those who did not gain any good results and ended up with the side effects. BUT YOU ALL ARE AMAZING TEST BUNNIES.I LOVE YOU ALL.
As for me, I will not take accutane. Thank you GOD for the reviews.

I am 42 and have had severe cystic acne for 24 years,I have spent thousands of pounds on over the counter treatments and doctor prescribed pills over those years.I have shattering low self esteem because of my skin and many relationships have ended partially due to my issue with being unable to allow a partner to touch or hold my face.
I do not go out socially unless to close friends and family,I am sick to death with being stared at in the street and overhearing comments about the state of my face.
I have a high profile job but most days can’t wait to get home, shut the door and remove the layers of makeup I wear daily in order to camouflage my skin.
After a horrific skin infection a few months ago I was at my first dermatology appointment yesterday, the dermatologist has recommended accutane as a permanent solution to my terminal acne.He has discussed the side affects with me and I need to think seriously about them, the risk of pregnancy is not an issue for me but I am concerned about the impact on my mental health as I have suffered depression in the past, although this has been directly linked to the way my skin looked and in turn the serious impact that has had on my self esteem. Therefore if I were to see the improvement on my skin I am sure that would improve my confidence to go out and socialise more, which helps mental health.
I have battled this disorder for 24 years and I am exhausted with it,all I want to do is be able to wash and moisturise my face and go … with no makeup or camouflage required.
I feel I need to at least give accutane a chance as even the side effects do not feel as debilitating as this skin disorder has been on me for more than half of my life.

My 17 year old son is beginning his fifth month on Accutane. Initially I was very hesitant to start him on this because of all the negative side effects and all the terrible things you hear about it. He did have some of the usual side effects – severely dry skin on his hands and areas of his arms, chapped lips, dry nose with occasional nose bleeds, and minor back pain but no depression or change in behavior or mood. He wears contacts and hasn’t had any problems in that area either. He did have bad break-outs around the second or third month but his skin is much clearer now than it has ever been. Hopefully at the end of the fifth month, he will be 100% acne-free. I would recommend this for anyone that has severe acne and that, like us, tried everything else offered.

Today I went to the derm for my last check up after five months on Accutane. Tears were brought to my eyes when she showed me the before and after pictures of my face. After suffering with acne all throughout my teenage years, nothing has given me the results that Accutane has. My skin is completely clear and I have not broken out in nearly two months. The few months of mild back pain and dry skin are worth it! I never thought my skin would look this good. I know everyone reacts differently to this medicine, but please take my advice and try it! You may be as happy as I am.

My last dose of accutane was in 2009. My symptoms did not start until 2010. I have frequent diarrhea everyday in the beginning I use to vomit. The doctors are now trying to fond out what’s wrong with me I’m on two medications for the pain, diarrhea and vomiting. I have also lost over 50 pounds. I do not encourage anyone to take accutane. You may think it cant happen to you but I’m living proof.

Works amazing. I’m three months in and the only issue I have had is back pain. In my eyes, I can deal with some side effects if it makes the pain of looking in the mirror disappear. Just toughen up and stick it out and your skin will be flawless. My skin has been amazing since I started it. I’m not saying to ignore side effects and reconsider but don’t let them stand in the way. I suffered for four years longer then I should have just because I was worried. Don’t wait any longer

I fought with acne throughout my teenage years and tried everything to get rid of it (proactiv, neutrogena, retin-a, clean and clear, you name it). I experienced quite an initial breakout soon after I started accutane but was expecting it and told myself my skin would get better. I’m now in the last week of my treatment and my skin is flawless. I haven’t had a single zit in 3 months, and scars from my previous breakouts are fading. If your in doubt that accutane can solve your acne frustrations, don’t be. Survive the first two months or so of accutane and you will be rewarded with the complexion you’ve always wanted.

I promised myself I would write a review of accutane after using it because before I went on it I would spend hours pouring over every single website that offered different opinions from users. I, of course, focused on the horror stories and was incredibly hesitant. I was scared to death of blood tests, but I knew that I would be happier with clearer skin. So, five months after stopping accutane, I am here to tell you guys that it is wonderful. I was on it for only four months because I was taking 80mg a day and I am a 18 year-old female, weighing 110 pounds. This is an extremely high dosage for a person my size. I had moderate acne on my face (I couldn’t go one day without makeup) but the main reason I took it was for my back acne. It was severe, and I am a dancer so I would have to expose it in my leotard every day and I was so ashamed and embarrassed and it definitely took away from my focus in dancing. During the fourth months the only side effect I suffered was dryness, and as long as I applied chapstick throughout the day I was fine. I conquered my fear of blood tests, and I was also taking accutane during the first months of college (which wasn’t ideal because of all the other adjustments I was making) but it was very easy to set up doctors appointments during breaks at home. Please, please do not hesitate to take this drug. It is scary, but my back is 100% clear and nothing else even came close to these results I have seen. I can dance confidently again and getting ready takes me a third the time it did before because I don’t need makeup. I am happier and more confident, and I want you guys to know that the horror stories are RARE. Best to all of you!

I had acne all through my teens and 20′s, even had problems in my 30′s. I waited until my last child was born (I was 41 years old) and took Accutane. I NEVER had any problems at all. No depression whatsoever. It was a miracle drug for me. I wouldn’t advise anyone to take it casually — it is not for a little bit of acne. But it changed my skin from super oily and always breaking out (yes, cystic acne, too) to normal skin now. It’s a miracle. I’m so happy. Acne made me VERY unhappy and self conscious for so many years . . . But I’m great now!

I am currently on the accutane medication, starting my 5th and last month. I am a 16 year old female. Since the beginning, I have experienced several different symptoms that all came as a surprise to me. In the first month, I had weird body sensations or dizziness on occasion. I think this is because the drug was new to me and my body was adjusting. Soon came the dryness. Into the second month, I became very dry all over my face; lips especially. I bought a large container of CeraVe lotion (recommended by dermo) and lots of aquaphor and petroleum jelly for my lips. These products have lasted me ’till now, and still help to hold off the dryness. Into the third month, I had a very dry nose. as told by my dermo, accutane basically eliminates your mucus lining temporarily, which covers your nose, lips, and eyes. all of these areas became very dry and hard to protect. I bought eye drops and saline nasal spray at this point. Into the fourth month, my nose became a little more naturally hydrated, as did my lips, but my eyes started to face trouble. I wear contacts very often, but I found myself reverting to glasses during this month. My eyes would get dry especially when driving with windows down, or being outside for too long. Now that I am approaching my fifth month, I have finally realized a change in acne and scars. Through the first four months, my acne would go from bad to worse, until now. My face is softer and much less apparent of red marks or scars or cystic bumps. Throughout the process, a common factor was increased depression and extreme sensitivity to the sun. keep these in mind very prominently in order to protect yourself. I am very happy I did accutane at a young age, and hope that it only gets better. good luck to all of you who are taking it, because I know how damn tough it can be.

Even though i did have side effects when starting such as joint and back pain, dizziness, headaches, and drowsiness; This product has pretty much cleared up all of my severe acne and i dont even have a single zit on my face right now! Dryness has effected me through out my treatment but protolium jelly such as vaseline clears dry patches and rashes right up. Over all this product has amazed me and i would seriously recomend it to anyone with severe acne. Love the skin I’m in, -Raelynn

But at the end it had done wonders my face was actually acne free for a good year! Then it started coming back a little which is normal epiduo worked for a few months and now at 18 my acne is back bad and i’m going back on accutane; I don’t want to but it’s the only thing that really works :/ I reccommend to you only if you can handle it..it’s deff rough you have to be strong on it. It honestly really is the strongest thing out there though.

I just finished my 5 months of Accutane, and I’d say it worked quite well. The main side effect I had at first was my skin getting worse (really painful acne on my face where I usually wouldn’t get acne). After a month or two, it got better, but my skin was still really dry (my hands, inside my nose, lips) and my scalp went really dry (plus some strands of hair falling out). The thing is I believe it was worth it. My skin is so much better than it was before. I will admit for the past week since I stopped taking it, I’ve been quite moody (depressed?), but you have to be prepared to experience these effects when taking the pill. If you have really bad problem skin, it’s one of the greatest medications out there. Plus, it slows down your oil glands, so you can go a couple days without needing to wash your hair (which I found awesome). So in general, I’d recommend Accutane greatly.

Used Accutane…highest dose allowed by law. Acne was severe and nothing else worked. Doctor said it would stay the same or maybe get worse first month, then get much better. My doctor was right!..didn’t change much for a month, then cleared right up. I experienced no side effects other than drier skin which I certainly appreciated. Thanks Doc! I recommend getting self or your adolescent to the dermatologist earlier rather than later as I had to wait 6 months before an appointment was available. Regardless of what medicine gets prescribed an earlier appointment will minimize scarring.

SOLUTION AND SAVIOR.
my dermatologist was shocked at how tough my skin is, she even told me that I was her toughest patient with oily skin and every kind of acne (ESPECIALLY those really big ones, cystic acne). I had to get rid of them, and this was my last shot.
It was a long six months and it eventually started to get better after 3 months of getting worse. In the end, it was SO so so SOO worth the wait and embarrassment. Because now, I will NEVER be embarrased about my skin again.

Product: Accutane

I took Accutane back in 2000 when I was 15. Until that time I had terrible skin. Pimples all over my face (some painful), on my neck, back, and upper arms. After trying several topical medications and face washes, my doctor suggested this product to me. While on Accutane my skin was very dry, blotchy, and peeled all the time. My lips and mouth were also very dry. My eyes were constantly dry and watery. I didn’t know if I could make it through the whole treatment but I knew it would be good in the long run so I dealt with the side effects.

After the 1st treatment was done, my skin was clear but not completely free of breakouts. My doctor recommended doing a second dose to complete the process. I did. Initially I was somewhat disappointed as even after I stopped taking the pill, my skin was dry and blotchy. Fortunately after 2-3 weeks all dryness and blotchyness disappeared completely. Even better, I was pimple free!! COMPLETELY PIMPLE FREE!! My confidence increased substantially,I was much more outgoing, and I was generally just a much happier person with who I was! I’m 26 now and have yet to have another breakout. Every once in awhile I’ll get a very small pimple but it typically is unnoticeable or disappears in a day or two. I definitely recommend this pill!

That being said, when taking the drug, follow dosage requirements very strictly because I’ve been told that if you aren’t regular while taking the pills, it won’t be as effective. In addition, a second dosage may be required, if you go into it with this mindset you won’t be as bummed with the results of the first dosage. Also, I developed acid reflux while on Accutane and still have it to this day. As far as I’m concerned it was worth it.

My 17 yr old son has just finished up his 4th month on accutane. (First 3 months were at 30mg, and final month was at 40mg). He had no stomach upset or weird thoughts….just extremely dry chapped lips. Before accutane my son’s acne was severe…going down his arms, on his legs, all over his neck and ears, deep cysts on his cheeks…and it was very painful for him. We tried over the counter things, prescription antibiotics and other topical stuff…nothing even phased it. Now his is about 95% clear!! It has been amazing. We are very happy with the results!

Product: ACCUTANE!!!!

I took accutane about 2 years ago when I was 19. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. I had little bumps ALL over my face for years. After trying literally everything else, my dr. recommended accutane. I was nervous to take it, but so excited at the same time. I remember my face clearing up completely within a month of being on it. While on it, my face was PERFECT, literally looked like a porcelain doll. At restaurants and walking down the street, people would actually comment on how beautiful my face and skin was (that was a first!) I had really dry lips, and cracks in the corners (which I guess is normal from accutane but is a fungus-gross. my dr. gave me ointment and it cleared up within days.) My face was very dry, but I put thick cetaphil on it at all times. Well, that was 2 years ago and I’m back to an imperfect complexion :( It’s definitely not as bad but I do have little bumps and breakouts. I’m considering going on accutane again after summer (since you really cant be in the sun while on it) however, I feel like i’m more afraid to go on it the 2nd time around! hopefully ill muster up the courage if my acne doesnt get better in the next 6 months. Overall, I wouldnt say DO IT, just because I know it has caused intense side effects. but PERSONALLY, I would do it again, it really was amazing and made me feel so good about myself, (and it was nice to not have to wear face powder or foundation- I only wore eye makeup- and people would comment on how powdery and beautiful my face was.ugh I want that back!) I’ve researched and apparently after 2 rounds of Accutane, (obviously) the chances of breaking out decrease. So in 6 months… I might be visiting good ol’ Accutane again, literally the only drug that has ever worked for my skin!!

I took accutane when I was around 16. I am now 43. When I took it, I would say it was incredible! I had large cystic acne that was unsightly and painful. At first it did make my acne worse, but that was short lived and my hair thinned very much! Dry skin was hideous! But I never had any depression or other mental illness issues with it. I did not have oily skin at all for like 8+ years after I finished treatment. The hair regrew after therapy and the dry skin too. I cannot attribute anything to it that was negative after the fact. It was a pain to go through treatment, but I persisted and the results were excellent.

This product changed my life, while the dry skin and aches and pains were awful it was totally worth it. My skin cleared up within the first 3 weeks, went from 20 big red sore pimples on my face to 10 to 5 to none, i don’t even get 1 when I’m going on my period which is when my break outs were the worst. i went off around 5 months and have been off for 3 months and have still not had 1, my skin is clear and the dryness is gone, its so nice to splash water on my face throw a bit of bronzer on and go. I used to spend a half hour every morning covering up the spots and had to reapply 2 or 3 times a day. To help with the dry skin i used a thick cream you can buy for eczema and put it on with a make up sponge under my foundation like a primer and that helped with the flaky dry skin and for the muscle aches and pains i would take a muscle relaxer before bed and that would help me in the morning when the pains were the worst. I have seen so many people give up on accutane cause they couldn’t handle these side effects, trust me stick it out and you will be able to look in the mirror again and love yourself!!!

I used accutane in high school for moderate acne that was getting progressively worse. My doctor forgot when I started the program so I ended up being on it for 9 months but I wasn’t upset. It has been the only thing that has worked for me. I have had smaller breakouts since then but my acne has never come back as bad. At first I took Tetracycline and it caused my teeth to go gray, and also did nothing for my acne. When I was on accutane I did have the the severe drying of my skin in the first few months along with the bloody noses. But at about 4 months my skin cleared up and went back to normal, and on of my favorite results was that not only was my skin smooth but it was no longer oily like it had been before. I would recommend accutane to anyone, and also tell them that the depression will get much better once their skin clears up. I remember during the dry phase I didn’t even want to leave my house cause my skin was embarassing, but that quickly passes as things get better. And to all those people out there trying to get accutane taken of the market because it causes bowel problems, Did you know that the #1 cause of bowel problems in america is the “SAD” diet or Standard American Diet. High fat, low fiber, and as much as you can get of greasy nasty foods. Before you sue the drug companies take a look at your diet and see if years of bad diet has given you IBS instead of accutaine.

This is an amazing medication. My 15 year old son has been on it for 5 months and I can’t believe how much better his skin is. He had severe acne over his face, chest and back and it is at least 90% better. He had tried everything including antibiotics, steroid creams, Retin-A and every over the counter medication we could find including Proactiv. Nothing worked and his skin only got worse and we were afraid of scarring. I think anyone who has severe acne should see a dermatologist, review the possible side effects and benefits and then make a decision that they are comfortable with. My son had very very dry skin and lips as his only side effect and for him that was well worth it. It did take 4 months before we started seeing much difference, so it does take time and commitment. Also if your insurance doesn’t pay for it, it is very expensive and you have to have monthly lab work. All of that said, this medication changed my son’s life, his self-esteem and I am very grateful that we were able to use this medication.

I’m 17 and have been on Accutane for about 9 months now. DONT WORRY THOUGH, usually someone isn’t on it for this long, I just had to start out slower and stay on doses longer before upping the dosage.

I had pretty bad acne, but this has gotten rid of almost all of it! (i have 2 more months! YAY!) My face is dry all the time (I just put on a little moisturizer in the morning and I’m fine) and my lips are perpetually chapped (I just carry on around chopstick). You get used to the routine for taking the pill, putting moisturizer on, etc. It’s helped a LOT though and haven’t had any other side effect. All Ive had is dry skin on face and a little on arms and chapped lips. Would I go through all this again for my mostly clear face? Absolutely

The only side affect twenty years later which may or may not be attributed to accutane is a frequent issue with hemorrhoids. I am thinking its not related because this problem is occurring 20 years later.

Product: Accutane

I am a 17 year old female, and I just finished my cycle. I’m turning 18 in a few weeks, with beautiful clear skin! I had moderate acne on my face and back, and I even started to get it on my neck. I was constantly caking make-up on and covering my face with my hair. It really was terrible and I had a horrible self esteem since I started to get acne in 6th grade. I know everyone says this, but I have tried EVERYTHING. Every pill, topical, home remedy, etc. that promised results that I never got. I was desperate. My dad took Accutane back in the 80′s and started me on it. It. Is. Worth. It!! I promise you. Yes, you will probably experience the mild side effects. Dry skin, very dry lips, dry nose which can result in nosebleeds. For your skin, use an oil-free moisturizer. One that has an SPF doesn’t hurt, of course. Honestly, I had dry skin but putting lotion on twice a day kept in normal. Really. And for the lips, USE AQUAFOR. I had never heard of it before, but I promise you it is the only thing that works. I still use it as a chapstick now. It completely took away the dryness of my lips. Carmex and all those other chapsticks do not work. You can get Aquafor at any Target, Walmart, drug store, etc. The chapstick is like any chapstick (a gel) but it also comes as a lotion that I would recommend to use on your face. And obviously you might get nose bleeds because your nose is dry, which causes the inside of your nose to crack and then bleed, but just put some Aquafor on a q-tip and put a light coat on the inside of your nose. I never got a nosebleed again. I promise you, to all those who struggle with acne, I know how hard it is. Accutane is completely worth it, and it is the strongest thing on the market to treat acne. You will not be sorry. I hope you take my advice. And remember, you must finish whatever cycle your doctor puts you on. If you do, the acne will not return. If you take it for 6 months, it will probably clear up after 2-3, but even still YOU MUST FINISH THE CYCLE if you do not want it to come back. Good luck, and enjoy your beautiful skin :)

It is NOT WORTH IT. Please please reconsider your options before taking this drug, my friend tried to commit suicide because of the depression caused by accutane. She is still in a wheelchair a year later, can’t smile or cope with talking to people, and will probably never be back to the way she used to be. Another very close friend has permanent kidney damage as a result of the same drug and again will continue to be affected for the rest of her life. Accutane has been banned in the states, why isn’t it banned in England?

I still have terrible scaring, so I will probably use a topical for that. The only side effects I had were dry lips and dry eyes except the last few weeks I’ve noticed my hair thinning dramatically and my joints hurting and my gums bleeding for no reason…. So kinda freaked out about all that and hope it is just from accutane and the hair will grow back. But it is worth it, this stuff works and will get rid of acne!

While on Accutane the side-effects weren’t too terrible at first. I had dry skin and had a nose bleed every once in a while, but it seemed to work. Over time I realized that my mood was changing severely. It wasn’t so much that I was just depressed, it was that whatever my mood was at the time was heightened to the extreme. If I was happy, I was extremely happy, and if I was sad, I was an emotional wreck. After a small breakdown my parents and I decided to stop the medication. Unfortunately, I think a lot of the problems I have now are attributed to the medication. Both me and my brother took Accutane. He was 17 and I was 13. Now we both have gastrointestinal issues, while not as severe as the ones in the lawsuits still pretty embarrassing. Also, I think it also stunted my growth considering I quit growing in the 8th grade. To everyone who is thinking about using Accutane, I would strongly advise not to do so. Make sure you have tried every topical medication out there first. I found better success with things like proactive and one type of the clean and clear face wash. Just because one face wash doesn’t work for you doesn’t mean you have to go to this drastic of a measure that might change your life significantly forever. Ultimately it’s up to you, but I wish someone would have told me this before I agreed to it.

After some headaches and heavy emotional problems I stopped it before it was completed. And now I have keloid scaring all over my back… Now doctors have found that if you don’t complete the accutane treatment it can create keloid scaring… All I can say is… there must be a better way… and if you do decide to take it… finish it to the end or you could get really nasty scaring. I wouldn’t recommend accutane at all…

I did 6 month treatment of accutane , back in the late eighties, never has pimple, dr told me it was stress related for me, and i was working at the time in a high stress job, i developed huge cystic acne, i was about 27 at the time, i has dry lips mostly, but almost 17 yrs later i get one or two pimples evry so often, but never have gotten cysts or anything like i experienced back then, so it does work and is very effective, just have to be patient, but it does work mine cleared up within 2 to 3 months but i did finish the prescribed treatment..

I used this drug in 1995 for 2 x 3 month cycles, a 6 month break inbetween. My dermatologist literally described it as a miracle drug (I had already tried antibiotics and Retin A cream). Yes, the drug worked well in clearing my acne over those 2 cycles, but I wasn’t really warned at all about the side effects (the internet wasn’t in widespread use then, so very little info other than from the doctor).
I was 15 years old at the time of taking it, and I would say within 1 month had slipped into massive depression. I didn’t really know what was going on, other than it felt like the bottom was falling out of my life. Completely suicidal & depressed. I knew something was wrong but didn’t know what. Being depressed, you don’t want to seek help, you just accept it. It almost felt like having a mental disability all of a sudden – I was previously a very quick talker, and then suddenly I was so anxious to even be misprounouncing words, stuttering etc.. Sense of humour & dress sense all destroyed.

Anyway, beyond the initial impact things slowly got better, but not to a point of feeling normal again. I saw a couple of doctors for my massive depression over the next few years, but in both cases was referred to psychologists, which helped but didn’t get to the route of the problem. Meanwhile, I struggled with my studies, work & generally trying to cope with life and my new ‘disability’.

Finally as a 30 year old, I started getting recurring stress fractures in my feet. Turned out I had severe osteoporosis and the skeleton equivalent to a 150 years old. Very scary, but also somewhat relieving to know all these issues over the years weren’t entirely inside my head.

Once getting treatment for the osteo, my depression lifted over 2 years. I still have another 3 years before I’ll be near normal bone density. I look back now in awe of the burden I’ve beared these few years, what a miracle it was I didn’t kill myself, that I managed to complete my studies & somehow get a job. I also wonder how things would have turned out had I not been on accutane? I really feel like I missed my potential due to this drug, girlfriends, relationships + ‘playing the field’ missed out…important job interviews bungled due to my anxiety, but hoping things will get better now.

I would also recommend checking your diet before using this drug. My dermatologist at the time insisted acne was caused purely by ‘stress + hormones’, but now I have better experience now of what causing my acne (i still get the odd bad zit/cyst)…it’s almost always caused by eating some dairy product, or combination with tea/coffee.

I really feel like I should sue Roche….

Probably the worst 5 months of my life ( i was supposed to go for 6 and couldn’t handle it), but it’s been over a year and my skin still looks amazing. Although the side effects were slightly unbearable, i would do it all over again if i had to go back.

it gets a MAILLION times worse before it gets better, though.

Im now 21 and my acne got worse when i was 16. I was put on the eryothromicin which i took 4 almost year bt eventually my acne came back. I was then on the minocin…which was great but once again relapsd fast. Then I was put on the roaccutane (accutane)which I took for 5 months. My main side effect was a lot of hair loss, I had a bit of dry lips but overall my skin was not really dry or anything. Also I noticed in the first month of taking roaccutane my skin cleared up straight away bt then it all went really bad out of nowhere. So i decided to stop taking the drug after 5 months and then I started to notice my skin improve again slowly…I just hope it stays clear for good!

Im a 19 year old female I have been recomended accutane by my doctor. I dont get many pimples but Im always left with the spots, Ive been reading about the side effects which are scarry, but at this point bothing else is working. My question to those who didnt like the experience is, were you monitered by a doctor while taking this product and where you taking any other perscriptions or using any other products that could have contributed to your medical issues. Also many of those who did not like the experience mentioned that they are having medical issues and the doctor does not know what is wrong, therefore do you think that it is safe to say that there is a possibility that accutane had no direct influence on your medical issues? Not to offend anyone but I just really want to do my research before i use this product.

I am using Accutane since 2 months now. I have the normal dry skin side effects. Despite the dryness, the skin is amazingly beautiful. I am 34 years old. I never had acne while a teenager. I started to have acne with 20 years old. Was not severe but I couldn’t take my fingers out of it and it obviously got very ugly and the scars started to appear. I did a couple of treatments that worked for a while but no one solved the problem since acne came back. The last doctors I went said I should take the anti conceptional pills even though I had no hormone problems or so. So I did, and while taking the AC-pills my skin was great, but when stopped the acne came back. I wanted to stop the pills asap but didn’t wanted the acne back. I hope I can finish the Accutane treatment asap and stop to take both drugs. And I really hope I will not have any other serious side effects from Accutane. Until now I am happy.

I just started Accutane. It’s my fourth day. I’m only on 20mg. per month because my acne isn’t very bad but there was nothing else that worked and i’ve wasted hundreds of dollars already. And personally I think a lower dosage is better for anyone because the side effects aren’t as bad and it will still work the same. But anyways, so far i’ve noticed less oil production in the mornings. I’ve noticed being a little tired and I’ve had small head aches a LOT. Usually I have new pimple every day but I haven’t had any new ones since i’ve started. Hopefully it keeps improving with barely any side effects.

I used accutane in 2001 right before I got married. Having acne all over my back & chest while wearing a wedding dress and walking down the aisle would have been embarrassing to me. My skin cleared up fairly quick, I was on the lowest dose for three months. I remember the most annoying part of the treatment being dry mouth and chapped lips. Also, I have a beautiful and perfect son that was born in 2002. Within the past couple of years I have started breaking out again on my face, back, shoulders & chest. I am hoping to use accutane again. Chapped lips are a small price to pay for beautiful skin and self confidence.

I was on accutane 3 years ago, took low doses for around 9 months. I started taking it after many many years of having cystic acne on my face and back. I tried everything else and nothing helped. The first month I had issues with joint pain and my body drying out. While I continued to take accutane, I gained 20 lbs in 3 months and had my derm test my thyroid which was underactive so I went down in the doseage. After 2 months I was back down to my normal weight with normal thyroid levels and my derm told me that he has never seen that side effect before. My tolerance to alcohol decreased, I become sick after 3 drinks to this day. I am still also extremely sensitive to the sun. I was diagnosed with IBS around 10 years ago and since taking accutane it has actually helped with my bowel issues. Although I had some issues, it was a small price to pay for the beautiful skin I have now. My friend also took accutane and she also has issues with alcohol tolerance too.

I’m 35 and on day 50 of using accutane and so far I think the results have been brilliant but it hasn’t been totally easy. I started on 40 mg a day and within the first week my face felt like it had bad sunburn and like everyone else I had really dry eyes and lips. By the end of the 2nd week I had a rather bad outbreak and felt pretty low and wondered if it was all worth it. Since then things have just got better and my skin is completely clear now, I’m still suffering from rosacea but it’s not as bad as when I started the treatment and I’m hoping it will completely disappear. I know this sounds pretty gross but I wastched all my blackheads fall out of my pores and they have now closed up. My greasy face and hair has completely gone and I just feel so much fresher. I do currently have an itchy rash on my hands and arms but it’s not driving me too mental and is getting better by the day.

I haven’t felt depressed at all but do have quite bad mood swings which is pretty out of character for me but it seems to have lifted a bit in the last week. Before the treatment I was quite a heavy drinker and stopped completely which I didn’t think I would find easy but did, you feel that dry and dehydrated that you don’t want to drink alcohol.

When I had my last consultation the doctor increased my dosage to 60 mg and day did tell me I could have a small glass of wine every day but not to save my units up and have them all in one go at the weekend but I have found it doesn’t really bother me. I had another little outbreak too but not as bad as when I first started the treatment.

It’s not easy but I really think it’s worth it, I have spent many years feeling depressed over my skin and the side effects now seem like nothing compared to the long term lack of confidence bad skin can cause.

It’s a big decision to make but I really feel like I have made the right one.

Good luck :-)

I used accutane in the early 1990′s when I was in middle school to treat severe acne. I had previously been prescribed various topical creams, several antibiotics, and tried a variety of over-the-counter creams, wipes and other remedies and none of them worked for me. After exhausting all of my options, my dermatologist prescribed accutane and IT WORKED! I took two rounds of it over a course of probably half a year. I believe my first round was 40 mg and then it was increased to 60 mg. The only side effects that I noticed while taking it were dry lips (which aquaphor helped) and more cracking of joints. This subsided when I finished taking the medication. My acne is tottaly gone and I only get an occasional pimple here or there. This medication transformed the way I feel about myself. I actually go out now wearing no makeup! I don’t know if there will be future problems related to my taking this medication, but 15 years later I have no complaints or regrets.

I went through 2 round of Accutane in the mid 80s in late High School, and then again in early college. It worked well for me! The only side effects I remember are chapped lips. But I had chapped lips frequently prior to taking Accutane, so it wasn\\\’t a life changer. \r\n\r\nMy Dad had severe scarring on his face and particularly on his upper back and neck. As he had struggled through the ravages of severe cystic acne, he was interested in sparing me the trauma. My acne was minimal on my face, but increasingly severe on my upper back and neck – particularly painful around my hairline. In my experience — Accutane initially made things worse first (as my dermatologist told me it would), as it needed to flush out the toxins that were already in my system. I liken it to volcanic magma that exists beneath and needs to explode out before it goes away. 90% of my acne was removed the first round. I had a bit of a relapse, and did a second round a couple years later. That cleared up 99% of my acne. \r\n\r\nMore than 20 years later, it has never returned! So my experience was very positive (although very expensive for my parents back in the day…)

Im 23 Yr old female, 130 pounds on 40 MG pills I just started getting break outs on my back, chest and Chin about 2 1/2 yrs ago,, Wich is sooo weird, I never had one pimple throughout highschool! rnI beleive my acne started from stress of my job.rnI started CLARUS ( a sister drug to ACUTANE) 6 months ago.rnThe first month, I had really bad chest pain at night, and REALLy dry lips, I felt soo embarassed about my lips , but nothing helped them, I used soo much blistex, and vaseline, even polysporin to try to heal my lips, but nothing worked.rnThe pain stopped about 2 moths in, and the dry lips alos got better around month 4, their still chapped all the time, but its bearable now!rnMy acne has cleared up a little bit, nothing at all what I expected. I still have a little bit of Cystic acne on my chin, and still get larger pimples on my back. It has definelty seemd to shrink the pores on my nose, but thats about it.. my treatments done in 3 weeks, and hearing about all these future side effects re: bowel problems, is REALLY freaking me out.. Unless this all of a sudden clears my skin in the last 3 weeks! ITs def not worth it.rnTo clear acbe, sleep is so important, its heals skin and helps stress, at the end of everyshower, run extreme cold water on you, that releives stress, and closes pores. Eat lost of green apples and Veggies! excerising helps releive stress to, wich leads to better sleep, and hapiness..rn Hope this helps out a bit,, rnGood luck everyone

After day 10 I couldn\\\’t cope with watching his character change, his body ached, fatigue set, very dry skin and chapped lips, acne got worse and depression got worse with mood swings, when I read the reviews on the internet he and I decided that it was time he quit. I went onto the website, how to get rid of acne info/blog spot and there were some really good tips and he is following them, ie Fruit and vegetables daily, increase water and no caffeine whatso ever, amazingly its helping. He is also taking natural medication called herbs of Gold and using MooGoo cream. Interestingly enough the Dermo and Doctor he went to never really asked what his diet and hygiene were like and didn\\\’t removed themselves from the emotion re the affects of R/Tan, just gave a brochure out on procedures while taking. I am glad my son is now disciplined in the philsophy of we are what we eat, he had perfect skin as a child and we believe he can achieve it again. Maybe if he continued with the R/T his skin would improve out of site, the costs might have outweighed the benefits though. I am glad I have my boy back.

I had a severe case of acne since middle school….all over the sides of my face, back and chest. I had tried everything from pills, topical gels and cleansers. Nothing had worked and I was slowly getting depressed thinking that I would just have to wait for age to cure it. The very last product I tried was Accutane and I am SO glad that I did! By the time I got around to trying this product, I was now a freshman in college. I was required to take monthly pregnancy tests and was on birth control because birth defects can be so severe if you become pregnant on this pill. It really wasn\\\\\\\’t a huge inconvenience, and the only freaky thing that happend to me is that my blood cholestoral levels increased dramatically. After I got off Accutane, they went back down to normal. My face is SO clear now and I am not even afraid to touch it (before, no one EVER touched my face beacuse I was afraid I would break out even more!)! I have been off Accutane for about 5 years now and have never seen another pimple or zit since. rnrnI know that there are a lot of scary commercials out there now and a LOT of warnings and side effects but even knowing this now, I would still reccomend Accutane because of the YEARS and MONEY saved by skipping all of those other gels, pills and time wasted still feeling gross by my zit-covered face.

That was 3 years ago…I RARELY rarely breakout and if I do it\\\\\\\’s an ocassionaly zit here and there, sometimes on my face but usually on my chest and its gone in 2 days. It was really worth it for me. The acne I had was so severe and painful that I felt nothing was going to work. BUT accutane changed that. Aside from some scarring people tell me all time \\\\\\\"you can\\\\\\\’t tell anymore\\\\\\\" During the year of taking it the side effects I encountered was chapped lips to the point of pealing and bleeding, dry eyes, dry skin to the point it was raw, and that was about it. I used to have very oily skin, with moderate acne in my \\\\\\\’t-zone\\\\\\\’ and it completely cleared up within the first two months of use. I suddenly felt more a lot more confident and happier with my appearance.rnAbout two – three months after I stopped the treatment, I noticed my skin becoming oily again, and now a year later I\\\\\\\’m back to where I started. My skin is just as oily, if not oilier than before, and my pimples are making a second appearance. I\\\\\\\’m using Differin now, but it doesn\\\\\\\’t seem to be working at all.rnAlso, Accutane came with quite a few side effects; chest pain, abnormally quick heart rate, irritable bowel syndrome, joint pain (especially in knees, hips, wrists and ankles), random blurred vision and anxiety. rnI\\\\\\\’ve considered going back on Accutane on a higher dosage since I\\\\\\\’m extremely insecure about my skin but I don\\\\\\\’t think all of the side effects are worth it. It is definitely an amazing product though if you are willing to potentially sacrifice your heath and are willing to go on more than one treatment if it doesn\\\\\\\’t work the first time. This was a miracle cure for me. Yes my skin peeled off and for a month or maybe more, my whole face was peeling off. My eyes and lips were also really really dry. Once that was over I had this beautiful glowing skin. I couldn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’t believe I could ever look like that. I had spent years with painful, itching, boil-like lumps all over my face that reacted with various hormones through my cycle and nothing worked on it. This was a last resort and believe me when it was first recommended I walked away and said no way. It was all too scarey, but then I saw what it did for my sister (who has a history of depression). Her skin was amazing. She did suffer from mood swings and ended up not staying on for the full six months, but it was still effective. I think that it\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’s really sad that some of the people who used this product had bad to tragic side effects, but I would also like people to know a good story about accutane. It\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’s probably 7 years since I took it and I am not totally clear and still use products to maintain my relatively clear skin, but it\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’s a million miles better than was it once was.

After trying every form of acne medicine prescribed by my dermatologists in 1996, he reluctanlty precribed Acutane. The drug dried me up immediately, and caused my irriation. I was constantly puttling lotion on my face and lips. HOWEVER, Acutane cleared my face immediately. I can litter count the number of pimples I have had since 1996 to present on both hands. I am very greatful for accutane. I helped me get my confidence back.

Went on accutane 10 weeks ago for back, chest, and shoulder acne (never facial for some reason). After week 3, beyond all of the normal side effects, all over muscle and joint pain set in. I\\\\\\\’m in my late 30s, and generally healthy. I took 2-3 percocets per day, as well as anti-inflammatories. It became worse and worse until I began almost having a mental breakdown. I started on 60mg/day and then had to reduce to 40 as I thought I would become a vegetable. I didn\\\\\\\’t want to get out of bed and at the same time it hurt to lie in bed. I wanted it to work very badly but should have stopped weeks ago. The funny thing is, it never even really reduced the acne during that time period (though I realize it was short). I stopped 5 days ago and am feeling about 10% better every day. I want it all out of my system for good. It obviously works for some people, just be very careful not to get caught up in the cycle I did. Without the strong social network I have, there could have been very bad mental outcomes for me.

I used accutane for about 5 months in the late 1980\\\’s. The side effects seemed minimal compared to the results. I was acne free for about 8 years. What I didn\\\’t know at the time was that my depression, stomache problems, joint pain (now severe at age 40), and psoriasis, would all be linked to using accutane. I wonder if I knew all the pain I suffer now was worth it. I also wonder if there would have been a better treatment. My acne was severe and my dermatologist did not try any other treatments, so I will never know.

Eleven years ago, I had severe cystic acne. I was so depressed, had no self-esteem and could not look in mirrors. The acne was extremely painful and gross.I often hid my face behind my hair. What a nightmare. I tried everything, different prescriptions, natural remedies, homeopathic, you name it. Finally a great doctor in Washington D.C., Edward Stolar, prescribed me Accutane. The first month of taking it my face was 75% clear. By the second month, my face was completely clear. I can\\\\\\\’t imagine Accutane causing anyone depression because it cured mine.

I have been on accutane for 4 weeks now and it has dramatically cleared up most of my acne. i used to have really bad acne on my forehead and cheeks, and now it has mostly disappeared. the only bad thing about this product is having really dry lips but you should definitely stock up on the chapstick cuz that helps. i would recommend this to anyone who finds acne annoying. cuz i have been using creams and gels just to try and help slow down my acne but none of them worked! and i got frustrated and i was thinking about going on birth control pills but my dermotologist suggested accutane. and I LOVE IT!!

Product: Accutane

I used accutane when i was 15 as i had severe acne on my back and severe scarring and nothing would help this problem so my parents went and got me on accutane. I took it for about 6-8 months, it is a big commitment. You need to get blood tested each month to ensure your health is stable while on the drug. I had pretty bad dryness on my face and arms to the point of skin peeling, but it was either deal with the dryness or very painful acne for the rest of my life, so i chose the dryness. Just have a your dermatologist prescribe a very good moisturizer. While on it you need to definetly make sure you keep your skin moisturized or it will just get worse. But accutane really helped me, i couldnt believe that my severe acne was gone. I still have regular acne but it is much much more managable than it was. I rarely have any acne on my back and when i do it is just normal acne and no scarring occurs. It was a miracle. I really couldn\\\\\\\’t believe it. Im 18 now and still have no problems or left over side-effects. I would recommend this product but still proceed with caution, it is a very powerful drug and can be very helpful or harmful. Stick with the product if all you experience is less severe side-effects such as dryness, live with it and moisturize, trust me you will be very pleased when it is all over. After you have finished the drug the dryness may continue for a 1-3 weeks as it stays in your system for about that long of a period. Good luck to all who are looking for a solution to their severe acne, be strong and stick it out, but remember if you have severe side-effects discontinue use immediately and see a doctor. Hope this helps everyone. Good luck.

Since I have taken accutane I have been diagnosed with lupus or some sort of immune disorder, irritable bowel, high blood pressure, I have extreme abdominal pain, which doctors are still trying to diagnose what is wrong along with abdominal swelling. My vision is distorted, I have obstructive sleep apnea, depression and I also am waiting for doctors to figure out what is wrong with my female reproductive system. I last took the medicine in 2001 and in early 2003 here came all the problems. I take 7 medications to help with these problems and I am looking at surgery soon.

Reading negative forums put it In your mind that every little thing is from accutane that is not always true!!!

I used accutane in the late 1980s and it was a godsend. Currently I amexperiencing more severe breakouts and am asking my derm to prescribe it again. The only side effect I can remember was the DRY DRY lips. But I used a prescription ointment and it wasn\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\’t too bad. I also remember back then I had to have a monthly pregancy test with a blood draw not a urine sample. I hope my derm thinks it will be effective for me again as I feel desperate

Accutane is the best acne drug ever invented for acne. I had wanted to go on it since i was 13 years old. Ofcourse, there is many known side effects and my parents would never sign the paper! So when I finally turned 18, I went on it right away. My acne is gone and im in my last month.(Which is five for me)My side effects are chapped lips, minor rash(that doesnt itch) on my forearms, minor mood swings, and I sunburn easily. I recommend it to anyone.

I\\\\\\\’ve been on it for about 5 months now (i finish in a week!)and i\\\\\\\’m definitely happy that i\\\\\\\’ve gone on it. I\\\\\\\’m not sure if the results will last…but so far my skin looks amazing!rni had a ridiculous amount of acne on my forhead, cheeks and chin, and the pores on my nose were especially large. All of that is gone now, and day by day i can see my old acne scars going away. rnAt first, my acne got a million times worse. I was almost embarassed to go in public. Makeup did not help (at all)and my entire face was covered in huge pimples. But even though i was getting an extreme amount of pimples, i could see the pores on my nose getting smaller. At first, although they got smaller, my nose as well as my chin got kind of fuzzy from the pills (it was almost as though everything from inside my pores was coming out and making an appearance on my face..pretty gross). But then after about a week and a half, that went away too. rnIt took especially long for my pimples to go away, though. Probably about 4 months or so. And i still get a pimple or two before my period. But my skin is looking amazing!rnThe side effects were pretty intense, though. I got extremeeee headaches for about a week every month, the joint pain gets really bad when i work out, and my lips have never been so chapped.Along with that, my skin so so dry that it peels throughout the day, i experienced some rectal bleeding, i get nose bleeds daily, and i\\\’ve become a more anxious/nervous person. but would still recommend it to anyone…my skin hasn\\\’t looked this good in 9 years. Last week, for the first time in years, i went to school without coverup on and it was one of the most liberating feelings in the world.

This product is absolutely amazing. I\\\\\\\’m a sixteen year old boy who had large acne spots at one point and I wore make up to cover up majority of my face. I was always never about my face and how it looked and worried about pimples all the time. I started the accutane treatment in September and now I only have two days left. Currently I have not a pimple in sight on my face and am always confident about my face when I go out. Accutane worked really really well for me and I would highly reccomend it. The only cons was really dry lips and a fairly dry face. Its definitely a commitment but it\\\\\\\’ll be worth it in the end! Good Luck!

I used accutane after years of suffering with acne and severe pain from this. Without this medication and six months of chapped lips, I would have still have nodules and cysts and oily skin and my acne would just be worse.
